Quit putting crap in my pack?

Postby Gorvin » Sun Aug 13, 2006 11:37 am

Quit forcing orga eyes and venom glands into my pack. I don't care if everyone nearby has one already, I don't want it.

I think "no expanded pack size" is one of the things about Clan Lord that won't be changed, due to some apparently fundamental structure in the game that is built around having 32 items in the pack.

That said, it'd be nice for Gorvin's suggestion to be implemented.

Is there some underlying reason why you can't pick up a venom gland if you already have one? If that was fixed, then Gorvin wouldn't have his packed filled with venom glands at least.

Yeah, and then 2 minutes later I have to do it again because someone ran over another gland/chest. It's annoying. Not to mention that I often only have one available slot in my inventory, which I need open in case a chain breaks. It may not be the most important thing to be fixed, but it should be easy to change (hopefully), and I don't think it's a feature many people like or care about.

What about a No Pickup list? You just walk on past leaving the item on the ground. The only thing that might be a problem is wood since it's been buggered with.

Include a /pickup command so that exiles can grab instances of the item at their discression. Like when people in the group need to shuffle items.

Awesome idea.

/drop doesn't work because the game is frequently faster than most anyone's typing speed, even faster than worrying about that macro in favour of the macro that saves the team. Deciding to drop the crap instead of helping the fight is the wrong decision most of the time. Think about the times people get a venom gland or orga eye then break a chain and drop a metal, that's teh suxors when it poofs while you're raising the team in the safe cave.

What about a ReservePackspace variable? wrote:Would need some tweaking. Here's the top-down.
You would never pick up items dropped by others or naturally spawning if you only have ReservePackspace left. So if you have 29 items, and a Reserve of 2 - you would pick up one Log of Wood, but no more.
Reserve would be filled by items 'dropped' as a result of breakage, chains and armour and whatnot else that drops components on breaking.
Reserve would be filled by using an explicit command like /pickup <item>, assuming you're in range to pick it up.

Cinn, that seems too complex.

Just make it so that you can pick up any number of venom glands (etc), and if you run over one with a full pack, it stays on the ground (like ore, berries, everything else on the ground) instead of jumping into the pack of the nearest person without one.

Then as long as you're not running over these things, they won't be shoved in your pack.

Running on Cinn's idea..

What if you just had an /option Turn loose item pickup ON of OFF

Yes, annoying (but very, very low priority to me). It wouldn't be so bad except that when you /drop, someone _always_ seems to accidentally bump into it and pick it up again.

Yes, the problem with venom glands is that if you already have one in your pack, you cannot pick up a second one even if your pack is not full. Instead, the one you tried to pick up bounces into the pack of an unsuspecting someone else. (like Gorvin) So the "fix" is to make venom glands like everything else. Then we can just worry about the $%^&* orga eyes that jump into your pack whether you want them or not.

Is that a new feature? I'm sure i remember picking up multiple venom glands on a single hunt.

I don't know if it's new or not, but you can only pick up multiple venom glands if someone else drops one.

I guess the temporary fix for this would be to do a \drop \mine so that someone else doesn't stumble across it accidentally, but then there are other people who actually *do* want the venom glands.

This does annoy me, although for the opposite reason as it does Gorvin. I collect venom glands on the hunt since I have a few pack spaces free, and Lorikeet usually doesn't, so I collect the glands for her and give them to her later. It's a pain when I intentionally run across the gland to pick it up, and someone else gets it. Especially since they don't want it, so they just drop it, and if none of us sees it get dropped, it poofs.

If people could pick up more than one venom gland, that'd fix it pretty well, I think.
